JOB SUMMARY

The Center for a Humane Economy, a sister organization to Animal Wellness Action, is seeking a full-time Campaign Manager to lead a national initiative to expand plant-based cheese options in the U.S. pizza industry, “Giving Pizza Plant-Based Pizzazz.” This effort aims to improve consumer choice, especially for the millions of Americans who are lactose-intolerant.

The Campaign Manager will collaborate with food companies, restaurant chains, and advocates to make plant-based cheese a more widely available option across retail pizza outlets. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, strong organizer, and passionate advocate for consumer choice, public health, and animal welfare.

This position reports to the Director of State Affairs and works closely with communications and advocacy teams.

DUTIES

  1. Grassroots Engagement
    Build and mobilize a national network of advocates to support plant-based cheese options across the food retail and restaurant sectors.

  2. Industry Outreach
    Engage with food industry decision-makers to promote and introduce plant-based cheese options on menus.

  3. Campaign Execution
    Implement campaign strategies to grow consumer demand and drive broader adoption of plant-based cheese in pizza outlets.

  4. Media Relations
    Collaborate with the communications team to secure media coverage and promote the benefits of plant-based options.

  5. Advocacy Support
    Assist with initiatives that increase access to plant-based foods in schools and public institutions.

  6. Administrative Duties
    Attend meetings, track deliverables, maintain records, and respond promptly to communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in corporate outreach, grassroots advocacy, or campaign management in food policy, plant-based advocacy, or animal welfare.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Strong knowledge of the food industry, plant-based alternatives, and animal agriculture.

  • Experience building relationships with corporate leaders, policymakers, and nonprofit partners.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic campaigns with measurable results.

  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects efficiently.

  • Experience in public relations, media outreach, and corporate accountability campaigns preferred.

  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, organizations, and volunteers to achieve campaign goals.

  • Familiarity with project management principles and ability to work effectively with people of varying backgrounds.

  • Professional, non-partisan, and adaptable approach to advocacy and engagement.

TIME COMMITMENT & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Full-time, remote position, with flexibility for travel to industry events, restaurants, conferences, and meetings.

  • Evening and weekend work required.

  • Must have reliable internet access and ability to conduct professional virtual meetings.

POSITION: Director of Media Relations
COMPENSATION: $63,000 to $70,000, exempt
LOCATION: Remote. Location in Eastern Time Zone is preferred; a commitment to working 8 a.m.-5 p.m. ET regardless of location is required
REPORTING: Reports to Senior Director of Communications

JOB SUMMARY
Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy are committed, fast-paced organizations championing the advancement of animal welfare and the end of animal cruelty in government and in business. We are looking for an experienced journalist or PR professional to monitor, develop, and place news stories that relate to our advocacy on animal-related issues. Share of voice and placements will be among the most critical metrics.

DUTIES

  1. Aggressively monitor news stories of the day for headlines that topically relate to our campaigns and then develop statements for dissemination.
  2. Work with internal campaign leads and the president of the organizations to formulate news releases.
  3. Follow up press statements and releases to amplify our share of voice and ensure coverage.
  4. Set up, conduct, and secure journalist attendance of online press conferences.
  5. Build relationships with key journalists on animal-welfare topics.
  6. Seek out and secure interview opportunities for campaign leads in news and magazine articles, radio shows, podcasts, and speaking opportunities.
  7. Build relationships with social media influencers and bloggers relevant to our topics.
  8. Serve as a lead in social listening efforts/monitoring of online conversations.
  9. Work with the senior director of communications to develop a dashboard of metrics and report on them in our monthly measurements meeting.
  10. Support the communication needs of the president of the organizations and the senior director of communications as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field with 5-plus years of experience driving and executing communications strategies and tactics.
  2. Ability to execute and measure multifaceted campaigns and day-to-day communications initiatives.
  3. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  4. A commitment to fighting animal cruelty and its perpetrators by toughening laws and changing business practices in corporations in the United States and elsewhere.
