Stop the EATS Act

Scotty’s Story Shows What’s at Stake for Animals in America

When Scotty leapt from a crowded livestock truck traveling down I-265, she had no way of knowing she was escaping a system designed to exploit her. The fall shattered her body, but it saved her life. Bruised and bleeding, she tumbled across the pavement until she came to a stop, terrified, injured, and alone.

Two Good Samaritans pulled over, scooped her up, and refused to leave her behind. Their compassion delivered her to safety, and eventually to the striped Animal Sanctuary, a place committed to rescuing animals exploited by industrial farming.

Scotty’s escape is more than a miracle story. It is a window into the violent, hidden practices of factory farming. And it’s a warning about what could happen if the EATS Act becomes law.

We must act now to Stop the EATS Act before it strips away the humane protections that kept Scotty alive.

Scotty’s Escape Exposes the Reality of Industrial Pork Production

In the video, sanctuary co-founder Greg explains how pigs like Scotty are transported at younger and younger ages, so small they can slip through the ventilation slats of the trucks carrying them. These overcrowded vehicles ferry hundreds of piglets at a time to be fattened, bred, or slaughtered.

Scotty sensed something was terribly wrong. She did the unthinkable: she jumped. Her survival, Greg notes, is remarkable. Most pigs who fall from transport trucks are never seen again or don’t survive the impact. Scotty did. And today, she lives at a vegan farm sanctuary alongside more than 100 rescued animals, finally experiencing safety, comfort, and care.

Her story could have ended on that highway. The EATS Act would make stories like hers even rarer.

What the EATS Act Really Does and Why It’s So Dangerous

The EATS Act is being pushed by industrial livestock lobbyists to stop states from enforcing their own animal welfare laws. If passed, it would:

  • Invalidate bans on cruel confinement systems, including gestation crates
  • Block states from restricting the sale of products from inhumane farming operations
  • Expand the power of national pork producers to override local animal welfare protections
  • Erase progress voters have made through ballot initiatives and state reforms

As Greg explains in the video, the EATS Act is a “blatant attempt” to stop states from passing laws that protect animals. Its purpose is simple:

Give the industrial pork industry more control at the expense of animal welfare, family farms, and democratic choice.

The legislation exists to protect the same system that Scotty escaped.

The Cruelty Scotty Survived Could Become Even More Widespread

The video explains how breeding pigs are trapped in gestation crates, metal cages so small they cannot turn around for years. Greg compares it to being trapped in an airplane seat for three straight years, unable to walk, stretch, or move freely.

This is the reality for countless female pigs in industrial operations. These systems cause agony, physical injury, and deep psychological stress.

States worked for years to ban or restrict these practices. Voters demanded change. Farmers invested in higher-welfare systems.

The EATS Act would undo all of it, reinstating the worst confinement systems in the industry.

We cannot allow it.

How You Can Help Stop the EATS Act

Scotty survived because people cared enough to intervene. Animals across the country now need that same intervention from us before their protections are wiped away.

  1. Tell Congress to Stop the EATS Act
Urge your lawmakers to protect states’ rights, humane farming standards, and the animals whose lives depend on them.
  1. Share Scotty’s Story
Most people have no idea what the EATS Act would do. Scotty’s journey is a powerful way to open their eyes.
  1. Support Humane and Ethical Farming
Join us and help us advocate for stronger protections, support sanctuaries, and oppose legislation that puts animals at risk.

Help Us Stop the EATS Act Before Animals Like Scotty Lose Their Chance at Life

Scotty jumped for her life and she survived. But millions of pigs trapped in industrial systems have no way out. The EATS Act would only lock them tighter into that suffering.

Together, we can defend the progress we’ve made and build a more compassionate agricultural system.

Stand with us. Let’s Stop the EATS Act.
