Statement from Wayne Pacelle, President of the Center for a Humane Economy, on Cody Roberts’ Guilty Plea in Wyoming Wolf Cruelty Case

Wayne Pacelle, upon learning that Judge Richard Lavery has conditionally accepted the plea agreement in the Cody Roberts case, had this reaction on a case that has drawn national attention and engaged millions of Americans:

“Kudos to Sublette County Attorney Clayton Melinkovich for successfully prosecuting Cody Roberts for felony animal cruelty. He handled this case with honor and courage. The savage attack on this adolescent female wolf, and the subsequent parading around of this gravely wounded animal, was a disgrace.  Justice has been served,” said Pacelle.

“Now the state needs a serious-minded and straight-ahead prohibition on running over wildlife with snowmobiles.  The Congress also must exert its will and ban the use of motorized vehicles to intentionally crush and kill wolves and other wildlife as an act of malice.”

Roberts is scheduled to be sentenced on April 8.
